Nebo United sponsored its 3rd annual Onion Days 3v3 Tournament. We had more teams participate than ever before and the day was filled with plenty of excitement. The Nebo United teams did a great job! Free Soccer Clinics for the community

Thanks to our Director of Coaching, Brandon, and the rest of the club coaches for providing free soccer clinics this summer. We taught soccer skills in Genola, Santaquin, and Payson. We enjoyed partnering with Payson City to provide training for city recreation coaches, refs, and players in preparation for the fall season.

Nebo United is always looking for families throughout South Utah County who are interested in playing competitive soccer. To help spread the word about our club we have dribbled, passed, kicked, and headed soccer balls up the parade routes in Genola, Nephi, Santaquin, and Payson. Publicizing our club gives us another excuse to spend a few more hours with our soccer family.

Nebo soccer players were out in full force to show off their mad skills and promote our amazing club. We were excited to debut our new uniforms! We are going to be wearing green instead of blue to better distinguish us from other clubs. The green jerseys and black shorts will look very sharp on the field. Nebo United Soccer players were lucky enough to learn soccer skills from some members of BYU mens soccer team this past weekend. The participants had 4 hours of instruction, doing drills, learning new skills, practicing technique, and even playing head to head with BYU players. It was a great time to improve our soccer skills and have lots of fun. Each participant received personal training and tips from the BYU soccer players. We were very impressed with how well they worked with our young soccer players. It was a great experience for everyone! Thanks to Amber and Jay Hawkins and our fund raising committee for putting this all together. We would love to do it again in the fall, but we have to have at least 50 participants for BYU to come. Please keep this in mind and let me know if you are interested in taking advantage of this great opportunity.

U-18 GIRLS 1st Game of the Season

Nebo United's first girls team in three years played their first game on April 2nd in West Valley and made us proud. If they were nervous about their first game on the club level, they certainly didn't show it. Don't be decieved into thinking that these awesome ladies are just a group of pretty faces. Their opponents had all they could handle in terms of of clean aggressive, physical soccer. Though the score ended in a 0-0 tie, they battled up and down the entire field for 90 minutes nearly scoring on several occasions and making Nebo fans breath a sigh of releif on the defensive end as well. With only one substitution, the girls ran their hearts out. Coach Ramos pretty well lost his voice in the first half of the game.

Hopefully this years girls team will be the first of many to come for Nebo United.

Conditioning Activities have ranged from Ultimate Frisbee to Sand Volleyball, Street Soccer to running the trails, but after the planned activity is over the Nebo United kids just want to play soccer. It doesn't matter the difference in ages or skill levels, they all have fun. It makes me anxious for our season to begin.

Our Y Hike was scheduled for the morning after our REAL game. Everyone got to bed quite late that night, but there were a handful of tired REAL fans who showed up to hike. It was a great hike- lots of shade, beautiful views, crazy kids, and snacks to keep us going.

Nebo United Soccer Club had an awesome time at the REAL game. We were able to sit together and cheer on REAL. Many Nebo players and parents were able to help bring out the REAL flag before the game, and some of our players were asked to be the BALL KIDS. What an amazing experience to be right out on the field just feet away from Rimando and the other players. Unfortunately the game ended in a tie, 0-0.

Dry Mountain Hike- June 12, 2010

7:00 am felt way too early to meet for a hike, but we were willing to give up some sleep for more time to hike in the shade. It was a beautiful day for our group of hikers to attempt this climb. The trail was kind of steep for those of us that weren't in good shape, but our guides were patient and helpful and made sure that everyone was safe and taken care of. Most of the group made it to the top, only a few were satisfied with making it "Almost" to the top. Coming down was a little tricky, loose rocks, not a clear trail, and then the sun coming out all combined to make it a little rough, but everyone worked together and we made it down to a trail in the shade. It was much easier once we got on the shaded trail and knew that the end was in sight. Our youngest hiker had a rough time, but in the end he was happy to say that he did it.

VOLLEYBALL CONDITIONING-WEEK 2

There was a great turn out to our volleyball conditioning at the SHHS sand volleyball pits. All ages got into the action, some spiking the ball, some making wild dives, and some of the younger kids just playing in the sand. Our conditioning activities are not only for getting players in shape, but Uniting the club. We have been so impressed with the caliber of kids on our teams. Nebo United players had a great time working with some of the trainers from REAL. They showed us some fun new drills and games and then we played some SOCCER!!! Leo the Lion showed up to cool us down with his water gun. Then we went over to Rio Tinto and had a tour of the stadium. What a fun place. We are looking forward to our visit to the REAL game on June 25, 2010.

ULTIMATE FRISBEE CONDITIONING- WEEK 1

Who can pass up a game of ultimate frisbee? We had a field full of Nebo United Players, family members, and friends last Tuesday at conditioning. The teams were chosen and the action began. Ages 7-45 were on the field together and the rule for the game was if an adult or older teenager got the frisbee they could only throw to the younger kids. It was great to see our kids working together, encouraging and helping one another, and having fun. Don't miss out on our conditioning activities. Check out the website for more details!

Nebo United holds successful tryouts

Tryouts were held for the younger teams on Saturday, May 15 at Orchard Hills Complex in Payson. We are excited to have more younger teams in the club this year.

The older teams had tryouts on Friday, May 21 and Saturday, May 22. We have some new coaches and board members this year and they have added much to our organization. We would like to welcome all of our new players, coaches, parents, and families to Nebo and we look forward to a great season of competitive soccer.

We played a great game on Saturday, April 17 in American Fork. The biggest obstacle of the morning was just finding the park. But once we got there, it was all NEBO!!! Our boys played like a team, plenty of passing and talking going on! It was fun to watch. Final score 4-0, WAY TO GO NEBO!!!!!

Players and fans braved a very cold game on April 13 at Footprinter's Park in Provo. Provo United showed up ready to play and it showed. We were unable to warm up enough to score. Our boys fought hard and played with good sportsmanship, unlike the other team. Did I just say that? The opposing team played rough, plenty of pushing going on, and some friction in the air. One of our players commented that after the game some of the opposing team wouldn't even give the typical high five after each game. So sad! We are proud of the great kids we have in our club!!!

Coach Draper and his U14 team played their first game of the season against Chaos at the Lakeside Complex on Tues. March 30, 2010. Our fans braved the cold, windy, gloomy, dusty day to cheer the team on to victory. Final score: 4-1!!! Way to go boys!!

Scouts—On Nov. 1, two young men from Payson –identical twins—were honored with the receipt of their Gold and Silver palms by unit 951, sponsored by the Elk Ridge 6^th Ward. Dayan and Devin McDonald became Eagle Scouts right after their 16^th birthdays. Both earned the same merit badges and climbed through their lower ranks at the same time. Both are home-schooled, play club soccer and excel in all they do. During the ceremony they both gave praise to their scoutmasters who lead them on the trail to Eagle. They also encouraged the younger scouts, who participated in the court of honor, to pursue the Eagle rank. Both stated they gained considerable knowledge and skill from the many merit badges that they earned during their scouting experience, which has helped them become better citizens of the community.

What a great group!! Even though we didn't have a winning season, we had some exciting games and lots of fun! Freddy is an amazing coach and the boys learned so much. Mr. Hyer, Mr. Carter, and Mr. Jensen were always there to help with anything and everything.

It was an exciting games today, with plenty of action. Nebo played tough and hard the entire game. Whenever we play the Shooters it is physical and very competitive, but our team played with integrity and style. In the end, the Shooters won, 4-2. Our team keeps improving and it is good to see our players working together, passing, and talking on the field.

Despite the fact that we were missing Coach Ramos and a couple of players, the boys came together and played well. They showed alot of heart and led the game 1-0 up until mid way through the second half. Lorenzo scored on a penalty kick in the first half. Our team got twice as many shots on goal as they have had in past games. Although the final score of 3-1 didn't reflect it, there were several victories for our team.

Nebo United U14 has had an up and down season. When they play, they really play. In fact, at their last game, Wednesday, Sept. 30, they did amazing. They triumped over a team that they had lost to earlier in the season. We won 4-0 with goals scored by Sergio, Luca, and Jedd. This is a great group of kids and we are anticipating great things from them in the years to come. Coach Draper has stepped up to the plate and is doing an awesome job. He spent many hours this summer in training to get his coaching license. We appreciate his dedication and hard work!

U18 Blue played their first game on Sept. 2. at Menlow Park. It was a hectic trip, first stop and go traffic on I-15 and then finding the address only to discover that there was no soccer field to be found. After discussion with some locals, we were able to make it to the game before the other team and refs gave up on us.The warm up was rushed and the game didn't go as we had hoped. We had some great saves by keeper, Ben Jones, and some good play from the team, but we fell short.

U-18 Blue had a tough time in Magna (Sept.22) in a very physical game in deep grass. We were not allowed a warmup period and the Razzia FC Pirates scored 4 goals in about the first 10 minutes. It was 5-1 at the half, so Nebo had begun to hold our own, but the game play became more physical and the game ended at 7-2.

U18 ( Pemberton) won in the last 5 minutes 2-1,completely dominated did not finish multiple opportunities.

U17 (Rogers) lost 2-1the team we played was good, but not better than us. We kept on their half probably 60%.

We had multiple opportunities but could not put the goal in the net.

I asked some of the boys if they were nervous when they shot, as if they felt they had to get it in NOW because it would be their only chance. They agree that it was a difficult thing to stay calm. They crossed the ball well just like we did in practice. They moved well for the most part. It seems they’re getting out of the habit of boot ball (good sign). We need to be more confident on ball control and finishing without pressure to connect with the net on every try. It seems that we get down when we miss as if it’s the end of the world and then the other team counters for a score. We need to stay positive with every good shot due to the position we get into to even attempt for a goal. The other thing is when we do score a goal it’s as if it were no big deal. The U18 (Ben Scott) got so excited that they scored he yelled mightily and pumped the others in to believing they could triumph.

Sam Metz, a senior at Salem Hills High School Plays midfield wing for Nebo United. Sam has been involved with Nebo United since its conception 3 years ago. He has played for great coaches and states he has learned alot to help him with the season play in school. Van Rogers and Steve Pemberton are his coaches and he states they expect big things from the U18 Nebo United Teams. Sam started soccer in the Payson City Rec and when the opportunity came to improve his technique and become a better player he joined Nebo United and has found what he expected and more. Home games here in Payson for Nebo United will be at the Spanish Fork Complex on Oct 10th, at 8:30, Oct 17 at 10:30 and finally Oct 24th at 10:30. Come and see what Nebo United has to offer.

Sam played for Payson High his sophmore year, and last year played for Salem Hills High School. Salem Hills expects big things from their year soccer teams this year, some of which have played for Nebo United.

Sam is the Salem Hills Student Body President. He also is on the Swim Team for Salem Hills along with being a manager for the Salem Hills

Girls Soccer Team. You could say he lives for soccer and to swim.

Nebo United sponsored a 3v3 Soccer Tournament for Payson City's Onion Days Celebration. We had an entire day filled with competition soccer at it's best. Thanks to all of the teams who participated and a special thanks to the refs and Nebo United Board for getting us "In the Game".

Not only does Nebo United produce great soccer players, they produce great men! These boys spent most of a Saturday helping with Schyler's Eagle Scout Project. They can handle shovels and rakes almost as well as they can handle a soccer ball!

After lots of hard work, when most boys would be ready for some R&R these Nebo United boys still had enough energy for some soccer!
